The Civic Long Weekend has come to a close and what a great weekend it was! As if made to order, we enjoyed long hot and hazy days followed by warm nights with campfires, marshmallows, beer and wine. Grand Bend Beach was packed and offered lots of fun activities, Ipperwash Beach also saw a huge increase in visitors and Port Franks Beach also had more people than usual. Unfortunately, lots of parking tickets were handed out, so I would like to remind everyone to please only park in designated parking spaces to avoid the fine, or bike to the beach!
I had a few minutes to go through some of the upcoming events in the area and it is a pretty good line up of fun things to do! A Family-friendly Rodeo celebrating agricultural heritage with Bronco riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing and more is opening August 10th, 2018 in nearby Exeter. Kick off to the Rodeo weekend will begin on Friday night when access to the grounds is free for all ages sponsored by the South Huron Optimist Club. The western themed event will feature moon bounces, games and a RAM Rodeo Olympics for the kids. Festivities and fun continue throughout the weekend.
On August 13th Alton Farms Estate Winery has a full day of fun planned. From noon to 4 pm, sip a hand-crafted glass of wine as you stroll through their estate winery touring works of art by local artists – Art will be available for purchase. The day continues at 6 pm when the Estate will be hosting a Murder Mystery Dinner. Start your evening with a complimentary glass of an unreleased wine, before setting sail on a sunny voyage. Things quickly turn dark when the cruise ship The Grande Illusion, collides with the pirate ship, The Passing Wind. Nothing good can happen following a time warp phenomenon when history collides with present day as Captain Pugwart takes over the cruise… book early to secure a spot – cost $75 pp.
The Steam Threshers Festival promises a weekend of delight from August 17th to 19th, 2018. The Forest Event showcases early agriculture tools and methods with antique vehicles, model engine displays, wagon rides and country music. This year is featuring Cockshutt Tractors, a rodeo, Square Dancing Tractors and Canadian Cowgirls.
Drag racing, concerts and markets are among the many more events and things to do. For a full list, click here: Port Franks, Grand Bend and Area Calendar – August 2018.
